Scholarships come in two main types. University scholarships are offered by the university itself, often as a fee reduction for strong applicants, and are usually decided with your admission. Government scholarships are funded by a country’s government, are highly competitive, and can cover tuition, living costs and flights.

The right strategy depends on your grades, field, work experience and timing. Government awards usually open once a year and close many months before the course starts, so missing a deadline can mean waiting a full year. University awards often reward students who apply early.
