Quick answer
Most UK universities close January 2027 applications for international students between late October and mid-December 2026, and many stop issuing CAS letters in late November or early December. If you are starting now, apply within the next two weeks, put your 28-day bank balance in place and book your TB test early, and plan to apply for your visa in December.

How late is too late?
There is no single UK deadline for January. Each university sets its own, and international deadlines are usually earlier than those for UK students because of the time needed for a CAS and a visa.
For January 2027, published international deadlines mostly fall between late October and mid-December 2026, and many universities stop issuing CAS letters in late November or early December. Some universities set earlier dates for applicants from Pakistan, and popular courses can close early when they fill.
So the rule is simple: check the international admissions page of every university on your list today, write down its application and CAS deadlines, and work back from the earliest one.
Your week-by-week plan
This plan assumes you are starting at the end of October 2026. If you are ahead of it, use the spare time for scholarships and accommodation.
Week 1 (27 October – 2 November): shortlist and documents
- Shortlist 3–5 universities with January 2027 starts and note each deadline.
- Collect your passport, transcripts, degree or intermediate certificates, CV and two references.
- Check which English test each university accepts. If you do not have a result yet, ask whether they accept alternatives before you book a test.
Week 2 (3–9 November): apply
- Write a statement of purpose for each course.
- Submit your applications. Apply to universities with the earliest deadlines first.
Weeks 3–4 (10–23 November): offers, deposit and funds
- Reply to offers, meet any conditions and pay the deposit your university asks for.
- Prepare for a pre-CAS or credibility interview if your university uses one.
- Put your visa funds in place now. The money must stay in the account for 28 days in a row, so for a visa application in mid-December the full balance needs to be there by mid-November.
- Book your TB test at a Home Office-approved clinic. In Pakistan these are in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Mirpur.
Weeks 5–6 (24 November – 7 December): CAS
- Upload any documents your university needs to issue your CAS.
- When the CAS arrives, check every detail: name, passport number, course, dates and fees.
- Once the 28 days are complete, get your bank statement or letter. It must be dated no more than 31 days before you apply.
Week 7 (8–14 December): apply for your visa
- Apply online, pay the £558 visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge, and prove your identity as GOV.UK explains.
Weeks 8–10 (15 December – early January): decision and travel
- Most decisions arrive within 3 weeks. If approved, you receive an eVisa. Set up your UKVI account and link it to your passport.
- Book flights and confirm accommodation only after your visa is approved.
- Arrive in time for your university’s enrolment and induction dates.
How much money you need to show
For a Student visa you must show your remaining first-year course fees plus living costs for up to 9 months:
- In London: £1,529 a month, or £13,761 for 9 months.
- Outside London: £1,171 a month, or £10,539 for 9 months.
The money can be in your account or a parent’s account, and in Pakistani rupees. UKVI converts it to pounds at the OANDA rate on the date you apply, so keep a margin above the minimum in case the rupee moves. Our UK student visa documents checklist explains the bank statement rules in detail.
If you miss January
A few universities offer a later spring start, but most students who miss January move to September 2027, which has the widest choice of courses and scholarships. Starting the September process early gives you time for a stronger application. See our UK country guide for intakes, costs and entry requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Is it too late to apply for the UK January 2027 intake?
Not always. Deadlines vary by university, and some stay open for international applicants into December. But many close earlier, and some set earlier dates for applicants from Pakistan, so check each university’s international page now and apply as soon as possible.
Is the January intake worse than September?
You earn the same degree. Fewer courses start in January, and some modules or scholarships are only offered in September, but January is a good option if you are ready now and do not want to wait nine months.
Can I apply for my visa before I get my CAS?
No. You need a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) number from your university to apply for a Student visa.
Can I use my father’s bank account for the 28-day funds?
Yes. A parent’s money can be used if it is in an account they control, and they must give a letter confirming they agree to you using it. The money still has to be held for 28 days in a row.
How long does the UK student visa take from Pakistan?
GOV.UK says you will usually get a decision within 3 weeks when applying from outside the UK. Allow extra time in December, when universities and visa centres are busy around the holidays.
